BOAS, or Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome, affects some dogs with short skulls, muzzles, and noses. It can lead to compressed airways, resulting in challenges like:

DOES MY DOG NEED 5/5 BOAS SURGERY?

BOAS surgery is a complex procedure, which may include up to five separate components. The five procedures include:

Nares Widening
Palate Shortening
Palate Thinning
Laryngeal Saccules Removal
Tonsil Removal

Dr. Vicky and Dr. Miranda are experts in performing all five, should they be necessary, to achieve optimum wellness for your pup.

And whilst both surgeons perform 5/5 surgery, it is not always in every pet's benefit. In fact, pursuing 5/5 surgery as a blanket rule may not be good for recovery and can interfere with the surgical success. Consultation & Assessment

First, we do a thorough pre-examination of your pup to determine the best surgery for optimal results.

On Site 24 hr Vet Hospital

Your pup will have round the clock post operative care from vets and nurses at our modern VetLand Hospital.

Pre-Surgical Anxiety Relief

Your pup will be given pre-surgical anxiety relief to minimise their stress coming into hospital. If they are more settled, they will require less anaesthesia, so recover more quickly.

Anaesthesia Best Practice

We provide customised anesthesia specifically for your brachycephalic dog, and ensure thorough anesthesia monitoring and dedicated intensive care unit support recovery after surgery. We also use local anesthesia with general anesthesia, ensuring your pup wakes up pain-free.

Laser Surgery

We use the Aesculight CO2 laser, which provides superior benefits compared to traditional scalpel surgery. It minimises bleeding, reduces swelling and discomfort, lowers the risk of infection, and ensures precise and shorter surgical procedures for quicker recovery.

Onsite CT Scanner

While X-rays create two-dimensional images of the internal structures, CT scans offer a three-dimensional view. This allows for a more comprehensive and precise assessment of your pup's BOAS, making it valuable for detailed evaluation of your pup.

Oxygen Therapy Chamber

Our onsite veterinary oxygen chamber can provide pure oxygen to your pup at elevated atmospheric pressure, improving oxygen post surgery. This enhances the healing process by increasing oxygen levels in their blood and tissues for faster recovery.

Bespoke Approach

BOAS surgery is not a one-size fits-all. We consider factors like palate length and thickness, and assess each case individually. Not every dog needs BOAS surgery, and we tailor the surgical plan based on what's best for your dog, prioritising their well-being and aiming for optimal outcomes.

Non-surgical Analysis

We also look at non-surgical aspects of BOAS, such as an oversized tongue or disordered nasal bones, and advise how you pup can be helped.
